Sinopsis/Synopsis:
Que suene la calle is a video documentary that goes deep into the dynamics of a border city like Tijuana through the lives of female teenagers living in its streets. The minutes that make up this documentary product are based on the approach of self representation, by themselves guiding the course of the points and the recording of their experiences. It is known that Tijuana is the most visited city in Latin America because of the enormous flux of immigrants that arrive to the city in an attempt to cross into the United States, making of it a place full of peculiarities. Through more than three years, four underage girls tell us their stories, lives, experiences and share with us their dreams and wishes. It is the girls who take the cameras and act to show us their reality, and to relive the most representative moments of their lives through little video stories. The camera has been for them like a mirror, like a friend that shares with them moments of joy and fun, or moments of sadness and intimate expression. This documentary shows life from 14 through 17 years of age, making an emphasis on the complexity of growing up and becoming and adult. In their narrations, each one of them, from their own neighborhood, personal and urban spaces, takes us to an unknown side of this border city from the every day intimacy of these 4 young street girls.
Let the Street Be Heard explores the dynamics in the Mexican border town of Tijuana from the perspective of teenage girls who live on the streets. For three years, four girls entrusted their stories, dreams, experiences and fears to the camera, which they operate themselves in this documentary. The girls reveal how they experience reality - they use the camera to record daily scenes, but also as a diary that they can share their moments of pleasure and sorrow with. One minute they are rough street kids, high on drugs and out of control, and the next they are little girls who miss their mothers. Images of the girls are alternated with interviews. Music is also key in Let the Street Be Heard. Raps with catchy beats discuss Tijuana's problems with gangs, drugs, drug tourism and corruption, which places the girls' stories in a broader perspective. Let the Street Be Heard shows how difficult it can be to grow up in a border town like Tijuana.
